What is the difference between optical and digital zoom?
i want to get a camera and i dont know the difference…
for example is a camera with 3x optical zoom and 4x digital zoom good, will it take quality pictures
i just need it for everyday picture takin, close up or far
also if i go to concerts i want to zoom pretty close
also if you have any suggestions for cameras that would be great

Optical zoom is in the lens, sort of like using a telescope.
Digital zoom does the same thing as software enlargement in the computer- not resampling, just pixel enlargement. You get grainy pictures- pixelized.
You are better off to take the picture, and resample in the computer with software, such as IrfanView (freeware). You can go up to double without major image degradation, especially if you are printing at small size, like 4 x 6.
I suggest you stick with Kodak, HP, Olympia, or one of the other well known brands (I prefer Kodak). Get at least 3x optical zoom (I prefer 5+), 5mp or more, and be SURE to get SD card slot. That is the most popular, and you can get better cards for less money.
Get a igb or more card, but if your camera can use it, you can get more than 2gb, BUT over 1gb, be sure you get the high speed cards.
